Ladies, I'm really petrified of having to have a forceps delivery and the thought of causing bab any distress makes me even more reluctant. If it came to it, can u say no to forceps and ask for c-section instead? If anyone watched OBEM last night you'll appreciate why my concerns have got a whole lot worse. I'm hoping for as natural as possible but sometimes things just don't always go to plan....!

Can you explain how being kept informed of what is happening will prevent you from getting into a situation where forceps is the safest method of delivering your baby?

I didn't say that it could not happen. I said that if I am kept well informed then the situation should not be allowed to arise where I am forced into a forceps birth. The situation on OBEM tonight was one in which a CS was absolutely an option, however, the staff decided to take it in another direction.

It was allowed to progress to a point where a CS was not an option.

A CS is always an option, that is not in question. The reason that it isnt always advised is when it presents a higher risk to the baby than a forceps delivery, and thats why forceps can be hard to avoid.

DH's cousin was born by cs after failed forceps and had to be pulled back up into the uterus. He still has a dent on his head somewhere (he is 21 now).Crikey after watching obem I feel for his mother even more. It was very traumatic seeing that little baby limp and blue. Poor baby, and poor mother, thank goodness that they both recovered.

I know that a CS is always an option, and I understand perfectly well the reasons why it is not always advised.
