Stabbing pain in vaginal wall

I'm 6 weeks pregnant, nearly 7 weeks and for the last couple of weeks have been getting the most awful stabbing pain (feels muscular, almost like an electric shock) in what I can only describe as my vaginal wall. It started off on the right side and now is on both sides. It comes and goes and is much worse in the early hours - waking me up in awful pain in the night.

Does anybody know what this is? I can't help thinking it's my body trying to 'get rid' of the baby? We saw a heartbeat in a scan a few days ago, so it looked ok in itself, but surely this pain isn't a good sign... ?

The pain could be a good sign, it's likely to be your muscles and ligaments adjusting to your growing womb. (At least that's what I got told early on) I had a lot of really strange pains in the early weeks sometimes a lot worse than period pains. Throughout my pregnancy I've had knitting needle pains down there and been ok but I understand your worry.

When I had a 7 week scan and they saw sac, baby and heartbeat the sonographer told me that my chance of MC was down to 2%. I'm not entirely convinced that she wasn't just trying to reassure me but it worked.

If you aren't bleeding try and relax. I'm sure someone with more knowledge and experience will be along soon to give you info. X

Thanks Pixie, I'll try to see it as a good sign then! I'm also trying to see as a good sign the fact that my 'morning' (i.e. all day) sickness is worse than ever today. x

I had this too in early pregnancy, and I still get it on and off now (I'm 27 weeks). At your stage I had a private OB and I asked him specifically about the stabbing pain - he said it was totally normal and nothing to worry about, just one of those things. Like pixie, I felt it a bit like a knitting needle being stabbed in the cervix or vaginal wall (nice!). I do occasionally worry now when I get it it's my cervix opening early, but then I have a word with myself (I can tell you it's not that as I had it checked after one of those episodes and it is firmly closed!).

If it does get bad though, follow your instincts and get checked out. If nothing else it will set your mind at rest so you can stop worrying about it, even if you can't do much to stop it. It'll probably ease off soon - so much going on in your body in the early weeks!

Good luck and HTH

Thank you both - such a relief to hear it's not just me and it can go on to be ok. I've never heard anything about it being symptom before - pretty scary being so clueless, especially in the middle of the night!

Peas I've just recognised your name from another thread I was on - glad the scan was good and all is well with bub! Yes, horrendous sickness a definite good sign - try and look at it that way Wink

Hotpink! I thought I'd recognised your name too! Thanks for helping calm me down - again! So, so relieved about the scan - can't believe it's only taken me a few days to fly back into panic again - I really thought if I saw the heartbeat I'd be fine! All hope now pegged on the big 12 weeks (which seems to be getting further away rather than closer with my dates confusion!) - I keep telling myself I'll stop panicking then; I've got to calm down sooner or later - surely this level of panic can't go on for another 33 weeks?! x

Peas I know where you are coming from! This pregnancy followed two MCs and a chemical pregnancy, and I had bleeding and pain around 6-7 weeks so I was a bag of anxiety for quite a while. I found after 12 weeks I started to relax a bit (although I did still worry about every twinge!) and then after 20 weeks it took a bit more of the worry away.

I'm now 27 weeks and although I do still have my moments I'm much more confident now, if that makes sense. I trust my body more that the odd aches and pains are normal, rather than heading straight into panic...You'll get there!

MN was brilliant for reassurance early on, as were some of the bits of 'What to Expect When You're Expecting', I still go back to it now when I'm worried about something, it has a surprising amount of odd symptoms covered!

Thanks Hotpink, and many, many congratulations on this pregnancy! You sound like a warrior! Xmas Smile Sounds also like I should get myself a copy of What to Expect asap! x

Hey mums and mums to be..

I’m new here 🙂

I’m 7 weeks pregnant (tomorrow) and having some aches and pains. Shooting vaginal pains and cramping, I had a MC just before Xmas and fell pregnant very quickly again (midwife said I ovulated 2 weeks after MC) I know, very quick and quite shocked at how fast we got pregnant again. Anyway, as you can imagine any ache or pain or slight twinge I’m thinking the worst Confused. Anyone had a similar situation and feel my anxiousness? Any advice welcome. Also my sickness is dreadful, morning, noon and night. Currently in bed as I type feeling soooo nauseous.

Thanks In advance x

I’m around 4+4 weeks( unsure) i had sore nipples and breasts, I had lower back pain and cramps in my vagina(mild) for about 2-3 days. They’ve completely gone just bloated and get a shooting pain the left side of my vagina at the top. Should I be worried? It’s my first so I’m just panicking a lot as I want everything to turn out ok?
