Doctor thinks pregnant, I think maybe ovarian cyst! Why does it take so long to find out?

I started a thread on here because although I had a light period 3 weeks ago, I have been feeling pregnant for almost four weeks:

Lower backpain
stabbing pains on right side (this and the above lasted a week after light period)
queasiness
metallic taste
dizziness
increased need to wee
hungry
number 2 a few times a day which normally happens during pregnancy
raised temp
spotty

since this week I have been feeling so bloated that I looked pregnant and I am aware of something in my belly especially on my right side.

I have now done three negative pregnancy tests so I do not think I am pregnant but have read about ovarian cysts and know they can cause you to have pregnancy symptom so I feel maybe I have one.

I have been feeling queasy with a metallic taste and dizzy spells and needing to wee for the last three weeks and now I look pregnant. I have been asked if I am and my little girl commented on my tummy. I am sick of feeling like this and if I have a cyst I want it out so I can feel normal.

I saw my go today and she thinks I am pregnant but could not test me, she asked me to test one more time today and can you beleive it but my digital clear blue did not work, i had throw the box away and a little pic of a book came up.

Gp said to test one more time and she has put me down to get scanned but said it takes 6 weeks. I an going to be massive by then! If my belly has grown in a week!!! I am also have a hcg blood test on Monday.

I can not beleive I have to wait 6 weeks to see if i have cyst. She said she does not think its a cyst because i do not have the sharp pains anymore. I just get the odd niggling pain.

Its the queasiness and metallci taste that is getting me down.

Anyone experience this?

I was not sure where to post this so sorry if wrong place.

Thank you x

unfortunately that's not a service that's available in most A+E departments.

I am going crazy for the last four weeks, I thought I was pregnant, ectopic, ovarian cyst now my gp reckons its gallstones.

I am aware of something on the top right of my abdomen just under my ribcage but I have pain that goes down my side into my pelvis and sometimes moves across my stomach. I have loose stools or go 2- 3 times a day.

This has been for the last four weeks with many pregnancy symptoms like queasiness, dizzy, metallic taste etc. Pregnancy has def been ruled out with hometests and hcg test at hospital yesterday. Other tests also exclude anything to do with my appendix.

When I have looked up gallstones it talks about people who eat a high fat diet or are obese. I am neither of these. My gp has given me an antibotic to take but I am a little reluctant to take it three times a day when she is not even sure I have that. I just need this scan that takes up to 6 weeks to confirm it.

I would love to hear from anyone who had gallstones and was generally healthy and not obese to hear your symptoms and your treatment.

I will take the antibotic just in case but I really wish the could be 100% about what they are treating.

I can feel whatever it is all the time especially if I lean forward or lie on my side.

Many thanks

Yoodle, I've been thinking about you - certainly what you're describing is nothing like my experience of an ovarian cyst, so it makes sense that it might be something else - and certainly it seems to match the gallstones symptoms. Obese and high fat diet are just risk factors, they're not pre-requisites.

I'm still [shocked] about the six week thing, though. Is there any way you can swing a private scan?

RollingInTheAisles · 13/07/2011 12:23

Could you have fibroids maybe?

yoodle · 13/07/2011 12:43

i thought fibroids give you very heavy periods? my last one was lighter than normal. if you put your hands around your waist resting on top of your hips. where your finger tips is where i can feel something is and when i do get the niggle pains it goes down from there towards my pelvis area.

Hmm I don't know, but I don't think you should wait six weeks. Can you make a noisier fuss?

RollingInTheAisles · 14/07/2011 22:59

Worth moving this to chat and seeing if any doctors?

BonzaBlue · 15/07/2011 01:16

I had gall stones and was healthy, not obese - low fat diet etc .... so it can happen. Had my gallbladder out about 4-5 years ago now and I def had pain on my right side - like a constant dull stitch ....

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 15/07/2011 01:34

My mother had gallstones at 32. She was a size 8 (and had always been) and didn't eat meat or much dairy. Whatever it is, when they eventually do an ultrasound they will see what the issue is. I'd just keep phoning the surgery about it to try and get things moving. Ask for the receptionist's name and be very nice, 'I understand you're very busy but I wondered if you had any news'. Ask for that receptionist each time you call.

Hello, I know this is an old post - but I just thought I would ask what the outcome was?
