5 weeks pregnant and bleeding! HELP!!

hiya can anyone help i'm 5 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child. My last child was stillborn which makes me very worried to begin with. I have never had any bleeding with either pregnancy before but have had bleeding on a morning for the past 2 days with really bad cramps. I've phoned the doctor and they have just said theres nothing that can be done untill i'm 7 weeks pregnant, and to just sit and wait till then. Has anyone one had this before? Any advice would be gratefully recieved

So sorry to hear about your still born.

I would try not to worry as early bleeding is very common, and can mean all sorts of things, lots of them non- worrying. I would call the GP back, as they could do an early scan, or internal examniation at the hospital. I had one at 6 weeks. Bleeding could be implantation bleeding, round about the time of your normal period, so makes sense, but very worrying for you. Just the foetus burrowing down into the uterous, and there can be a bit of bleeding with it. This happened to me with baby no 2, and all is fine now.

Hopefully all will be well. How much bleeding was there? Has it calmed down now?

Try not to worry, can you talk to your midwife? Call the maternity ward from your green notes to talk to someone.

I went to the doctor and she refered me to the Early pregnancy assessment unit. They took blood as I was too early for a scan and got the result the next day.

Something like 1 in 4 women have some bleeding in the first 3 months.

Hi. I am 5+5 and for the past few days I have had spotting too. I was worried sick and called my EAU and they are scanning me on friday when i will be 6 weeks. They did my bloods yesterday and agin tomorrow too. i was already under the care of the EPU as I have had previous miscarriages, but some let you self refer. Can you call your local unit and see if they will scan you or do bloods? XX

PS my doctor also said brown blood is not a worry, and can be very usual in early pregnancy xx

So sorry to hear this... all you can do is take it really easy and hope the pregnancy carries on. You could be miscarrying, but its hard to say. Bleeding is always a concern. Bright arterial blood is worrying, and if heavy is not good. Lighter spotting and more of a brownish colour is less of a concern.

Sorry to hear about the bleeding. I had bleeding in the first 12 weeks with my first two pregnancies both girls, but none with my third pregnancy which turned out to be a boy.

With DD1 the bleeding was 3 afternoons in a row at around 3pm, I was 11 weeks. I managed to get an early scan and everything was ok and they couldn't determine the cause of the bleeding.

With DD2 I had bleeding at 6 weeks and went to my GP. They did blood tests then and a few days later to check the levels were increasing. But my GP also checked my cervix with the thing they use to do a smear test (he just looked through it) and was able to tell me it was closed so that was apparently a good thing. The bleeding stopped after a couple of days. Then at around 10 weeks it started again. I had a scan at this stage and they were able to tell me there was a blood clot outside the sac the baby was in. But they estimated I would bleed for 2 weeks till the clot dissipated. They were right with their estimate.

So there can be many causes of bleeding that aren't all bad news.

Thinking of you as I know how horrible it is to fear going to the toilet. I would contact your GP or local hospital to see if they could even do a couple of blood tests to put your mind at ease particularly with your previous experience.

Oh, vicky!... Bleeding and cramping is never good news, but it does not have to be bad news either. As they say, everyone is different and every pregnancy is different.

I bled in my current pregnancy so heavily (and suddenly) that my jeans soaked to the kneels. Thank god I was at home and was able to rush to A&E. It was at 12 weeks. A 'helpful' doctor told me that the cervix was open and it is better for me to go home and prepare for a mc. Needless to say I cried my eyes out for 2 days non-stop. 5 days later after nothing happened I went to my scheduled u/s and saw a wriggling baby. The sonographer was amazed when I told her about our earlier visit and said she would not have known it from my pictures. I am 19 weeks now and all is good.

So, one just really never knows....... good luck and I keep my fingers crossed for you!

I'm so sorry to hear about your last baby, you must be really worried. If it's any comfort I bled on and off throughout my first pregnant, starting at 7+3 and the last one was at at 34 weeks. I was checked numerous times and they never did find a reason for it, although my first scan at 7+3 did show a 'vanishing twin'. Basically DS started as a twin but the twin didn't develop so there was an empty sac along his. DS is now a healthy 20 month old asleep in his cot so it doesn't always mean bad news. Take it easy if you can and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I started bleeding 3 weeks ago tomorrow in the evening. A friend found the details for the early pregnancy unit at Kings College hospital in London. I went there on the Friday morning and had an internal scan. Turns out there was a bleed in the womb but the bean was still hanging in there. The bleeding stopped in the afternoon on the Friday.

Do any hospitals near you have an early pregnancy unit or even an emergency gynaecology department?
