I am 30wks pregnant with my 3rd DC. This is the 3rd time I have had worms this pregnancy caught from my 6yr old son again.
On both previous occasions hygiene measures have eventually cleared them up. On this occasion they seem to be getting worse
&I have cracked & taken ovex this evening. I have been so unwell with SPD, awful piles & heartburn. I haven't slept for a week with everything & feel so disgusting & dirty.

I looked on the Internet & research to say it is fine to take after 1st trimester & is given in developing countries routinely. Obviously now I am shitting myself & can't believe I have done this.

I don't need a flaming as I feel bad enough. Has anyone else been prescribed this in pregnancy?

I haven't but am watching with interest.

I'm sure you'll be fine. Why don't you have a chat with your GP?

I've been prescribed a few things this time which are not 'safe' for pg. GP has explained it by saying that it's not that the drugs are unsafe it's that with ethical issues about testing on pg women there's no studies to say the drugs are safe. But there's plenty of usage to say that they're not dangerous.

Maybe it's the same with Ovex?

I took some fairly hardcore prescription stuff with ds and he's a happy healthy 4yo boy now.

Thanks for your reply. Too scared to contact gp- he can't really reassure me if a drug is not advised in pregnancy.
I just couldn't take it anymore- the lack of sleep & these fuckin worms! I hate them. I can barely walk but need to sleep sitting up with foot under my backside to try & control the itching- this is the opposite to what u should do with bad piles.

Pregnancy & I really don't get on!

They prescribe it here in oz if you are 22 weeks + yours now worm free and 25 weeks pg.

buttonmoon78 · 26/04/2011 00:11

But he can tell you if there's a lot of circumstancial evidence to say it's not unsafe.

Not being unsafe and being unsafe are two wildly different things, I promise!

That's v interesting to know cjdamoo

Thanks cjdamoo- that it brilliant to hear. Makes me feel a bit better. I am lying/sitting here unable to sleep with the intense itching (boak!!).

Poor you!

Seems fine- as already said they just can't test lots of drugs in pregnancy because of the ethical rules (same for infants & children) so even if there is lots of use historical use without complications it cannot be labelled 'safe', although that doesn't mean it's unsafe.

I understand Ovex has been used for a lot of pregnant women and no complications have shown up, and it is routinely prescribed in lots of places, so try not to worry!

Hope the itching stops soon, sounds thoroughly unpleasant x
