Flying to Morocco, 18 weeks pregnant...

Hi ladies,

I'm 18 weeks and am flying to Morocco on Saturday (23rd) for 2 weeks, so will be 20 weeks when out there. I have read that flying in the second trimester is the best time, but I'm still very anxious. I'm going to be vigilant about what I eat, only drink bottled water and all those things but what else can I do/not do that will prevent any mishaps?! I have taken out travel insurance who will cover me while pregnant but hope not to use it. And if anyone has ever been to Agadir any tips?

I don't think so. FWIW I went to Morocco several times and never got ill. Enjoy!

Hi - it's not clear what you are worried about but I can certainly reassure you that flying while pregnant is nothing to be concerned about. I flew with dd1 when she was about 3 weeks (I didn't know she was there!), 6 weeks, 9 weeks (both of those journeys were half way round the world), 13 weeks, 20 weeks, and 34 weeks, and with dd2 when she was about 13 weeks. And no problems with any of them.
If you are worried about being in Morocco while pregnant, just be sensible and you'll be fine. It's a modern country with good medical faciltities and as you have taken out insurance already I can't really think of anything else you need to worry about.

I'm actually not too sure what I am worried about, just panicking about anything and everything! Just think I needed reassurance that other expectant mothers have flown with no problems.

I flew to Morocco at around 26 weeks pregnant I think, can't remember. Had a lovely time! Just be sensible about food, you don't need to be paranoid.

Hi Bella,
Really glad you posted this - I'll be going to Morocco in June at 26wks and was a bit concerned, not so much about the flight but more about being pregnant whilst there. This thread has reassured me!
Cheers and have a great holiday xx

I have just come back from Morocco and I'm 23 weeks and have a toddler.

The only things to avoid are tap water (but I brushed my teeth in it) and the food stalls at Djemaa al Fna and the fish stalls at Essaouiria. Only because I've been sick there previously and Moroccan friends have also.

Otherwise fine. Bottled water very easy to get everywhere.

Have a chicken and vegetable tagine at Chegrouni's roof terrace on the big square. Best in town say my Moroccan friends and it was wonderful.

In terms of flying, I did many work trips from Singapore to Tokyo when 5+ months pregnant (journey's about 5-6 hours) with no problem and flew within SE Asia up until about 30 weeks.

Keep hydrated, tell the airline and get up and about -- everything you are supposed to do normally.

But then I rode a sportsbike until 4-1/2 months pregnant in flip flops and an open-face helmet so my risk profile may be askew.

Morocco's great, you'll have a lovely time.

You may have thought about this already but I'd say avoid ice in your drinks - it doesn't always come from bottled water and can make you ill.

My only other advice is get out of Agadir if you can.

Hi I’m in the same situation my only concern is the travel vaccinations which is hep A and Typhoid fever. Did you or anyone else by any chance have these done whilst pregnant to travel to Morocco? I would really appreciate if someone could advise me as I’m getting unclear responses from professionals as to whether it’s safe or not during pregnancy.
