my second baby on its way (5 days to go!) and i am confused about whether to swaddle or not. last time i started and then a midwife said it increased the chance of cot death. a week later a different mw said it reduced it!!!

this time i bought a swaddle ready to give it a try and then my midwife said it was dangerous...

i am so confused with conflcting info, anyone know any more than me????

bless you!

i will indeed :) its all based on instinct isnt it, some things my friends are happy to do but i couldnt bear.. whereas things i did my friends may not have been happy doing.

parenthood is the scariest time if you let your mind go crazy...

thanks everyone for your advice again

I think I'm quite laid back and my friend is rule obsessed but sometimes she does things and I think whatttt haha. There is know such thing as a perfect mummy, were all good mums just in different ways.

I've got another 16weeks till baby is due so I get so excited when people are so close to having there babies.

Ok leave you alone now. Good luck again. X

i am lad back about some things but i have a massive fear of losing ds, recurrent nightmares of him wandering off.. i think we all have our weak spots!!!

good luck to you too

Yeah we are having a boy, we had a test at 12weeks as our DD had cystic fibrosis so we have knew for ages he's a boy. We picked a name and decided to not tell anyone since everyone thinks they have a right to tell you how much they hate that name and try putting you off it. Haha Do you know what your having? Is your little boy excited? I love the surprise of not knowing but DP wanted to know this time so I let him win.

Its really really exciting isn't it, the fact you made this little person just amazes me. Our bodies are amazing and there worth every stretch mark, ache and pain aren't they. Ok now I'm a little jealous you will get to meet your little person sooner then me.

The kiddicare link that doesn't work was for Summer Infant SwaddleMe wrap. I got mine from an ebay seller but you can get them from lots of different places.

oh how lovely!!! boy and a girl what a blessing :) i have been told its a girl and my little boy ben is really excited. we have had his baby dvds on a loop and he is enjoying all things baby at the moment- and the fact he will be a BIG brother haha!

we have picked out the name eloise, my fave!!!! took us ages and am now sticking even if noone else likes i.. almost a relief to have it picked and ready.

i completely agree, stretch marks, labour etc etc i am kind of enjoying it all as i know how lovely it all is, tough yes but still lovely!! especially those first few weeks. and i know how you feel, my friend is being induced today and i got a jealousy niggle! we are both odd it seems!!!

This is our third we also have a boy called Ben, good name choice :) eloise is such a pretty name. Ahh bless your little boy being excited, mine are 4 and 2an a half so getting a bit bored of waiting for him now. I'm same as you and felt such a relief to finally agree on a baby name.

So are you due in 4days or actually having her then? Planned c section?

Sometimes 40weeks seems so long but its comes round so fast doesn't it. I'm only 10% jealous and 90% happy that you'll meet your baby really soon. Haha. Xx

mandy1978 · 10/02/2011 17:15

well done on your choice of name, ben is a lovely name.. i still loe it after 3 and half years and he always gets complimented (esp by older generation!).. wow, 3rd child you have slotted one in between ours. i have renewed respect!!!!

due in 4 days, was late last time though although naturally went into labour after 11 days. i don t think he will be early as i feel far too well and even jogged across the road today.. she is going to be a late one but anticipaton is half the fun i guess ;-)

only 10% jealous, well when yours comes i will probably be 10% jealous you will be going through it when mine has already arrived and is no longer new born!!

its such an exciting time and i prob wont do it again so got to just enjoy it! hop your pg is plain sailing and enjoyable!!

I was planning to swaddle, so after this thread I've been reading around a bit more. This:

www.halosleep.com/products/detail/28/micro-fleece_sleepsack_swaddle/33/micro-fleece_sleepsack_swaddle/

is approved by SIDS foundations in the US and Canada. Pretty expensive over here, but I think I'll get this!

mandy1978 · 11/02/2011 11:55

will do scouseem!!!!

have decided not to swaddle am going to do exactly what i did with ds 1 and then i cannot blame myself if something does go wrong at all.

bottom of cot, micro blanket, opting not to sleep so i can watch breathing no doubt as well!!!!!

gah, i am so not a risk taker,....
thanks for all your thoughts though its been very helpful!!!

I'm glad you've made a decision - as parents, all we can do is the best we can :). Still hard though Confused

Just a note re. lots of the swaddling wrap things - I got 1 prior to DD1 thinking it might be useful, and then MIL bought us one as well. One from Gro Group and one from Mothercare. DD turned out to be a reasonable size at 9b12. Neither were big enough...
