Bump deflated at 16 weeks- worried!

I've had a definite bump since about 12 and half weeks, and i'm now 16+1.

Almost overnight my bump appears to have deflated and today I have what just seems like my slightly jelly-belly and no hard bump! I can tell because my maternity leggings are a lot looser today and not as tight over my bump as they were previously.

I'm now terrified that something has happened to the baby Sad I don't feel pregnant at the moment, as haven't felt sick or tired for a few weeks now. Our 12 week scan showed baby was fine. We had a CVS at 13+2 weeks due to high risk blood results (results ended up being fine), and as far as we know it went well, and I heard baby's heartbeat at docs two days later. No bleeding or cramping either...

Got my next midwife appointment on Thursday, but wanted to know if anyone else has had this at any point in their pregnancy i.e. bump suddenly vanishing! Worried!

IME the "bump" you get in the early stages is more water retention / trapped wind / general bloating etc rather than actual baby.

It's probably just that your bloating has subsided a bit - normal for around this time in pg.

yes jacksmybaby is right, my bump at 1st seemed massive, but then at the end 42 weeks i barely had one, the baby at 16 weeks is still tiny, so its more likely to be water retention and bloating. im now preg with my 2nd and the other day i had a massive podge, but week after it went and now tuumys flat again

My 14 week bump is all over the place. Sometimes I seem pretty big for this stage and sometimes it seems to have gone. I find it is bigger in the evenings too. I think quite a bit is down to bloating as well.

Am 16+3 and mine changes size throughout the day. Am fairly flat in the morning, massive by teatime and then very little 'bump' by next morning. Even from one day to the next its differing sizes. I have been driving myself msad with worry since my 12 week scan (which was perfectly fine) but from what i can gather from MN and friends its all perfectly normal. And that I should enjoy these few weeks where I feel normal and am not the size of a house!! Grin

CheeseChomper I'm glad you posted this. I'm feeling exactly the same. I'm also 16 weeks and feel like my bump is smaller. It also didn't help that I got on the scale and noticed that I lost a pound (or two). I've had a cold, so I'm thinking it may be partially dehydration.

Let us know how Thursday's appointment goes (and congrats on the good cvs results!).

It could've been partly gas and retained water - very common in the early stages. Or constipation!

Once baby gets big enough, the position they lie in affects how big and what shape your bump is anyway, but at 16 weeks the baby isn't really big enough to do that.

Thanks all for your comments- as I said have been really worried. Now not so much! Smile

Hey I just wanted to say I am experiencing the same exact thing. My appointment is this Thursday I am 4 months and my bump got small randomly. I’m thinking it’s probably gas because I’ve been really gassy lately. I started to panic a little bit.

MayBeee · 24/04/2022 14:12

@Nanajay

This ' baby ' is now 12 years old ! !

Don't worry. As pp have said, the baby is very small. It's common not to show at all at that stage.

At first, your bump is just where your uterus has expanded and popped out above the pelvis but it’s growing and expanding all the time. It might have just spread rather than having that very definite protrusion above your pelvis, if that makes sense.
