DD1 says she is scared to use the potty

Tried to potty train DD1 last month-she is just 2.6 months old. It was a complete disaster and I gave up after 4 days. I tried so hard for 1st 3 days to shrug off accidents, mop up, change clothes etc but by day 4 we were both very worked up and emotional (not my finest hour as a mummy). This weekend DH was talking to her about doing pee/poo in potty or toilet and she told him she is scared to go on potty/toilet because mummy shouts. I have to say this is really hard to admit and I feel like the worst mother in the world. Any advice about how to coax her back onto the potty/toilet at some point in the future please? Tried rewards (stickers, choc buttons) but they don't seem to be working.

Hi, my son is 2yrs 5months and we're being very relaxed about the toilet thing. We did try the potty thing when he was about 2, but he really didn't like it. We've had much more success offering the toilet (with a little seat thing on) when he has a nappy change, and before baths etc, as he has seen us on the toilet and accepts that's what you do for a wee or a poo etc rather than the potty which is not a normal part of our daily life. He's quite happy to do wee's and the occasional poo on the toilet and after either we do lots of praise, but if he doesn't do anything we don't make a fuss, we just say something along the lines of 'ok, but remember to tell mummy and daddy if you would like to go to the toilet'.
However, this is probably/maybe a step back from where you are - it depends how soon you need/want to toilet train.
I don't know if this will help, but I just thought you might like to know what someone else with a similar age child is doing...
