DS, 2.3, not asking for the potty

Just started trying to potty train DS who was 2 at the end of March. He has all the signs that he is ready for training and often tells you when he is going for a poo but he never asks for the potty despite me saying to him, tell mummy when you need a poo/wee wee. I put him on the potty regularly and he'll often do a wee but never a poo. Just a minute ago was the normal time for his poo so I kept asking him, do you need a poo, do you want to go on the potty, and he kept saying no and I didn't push it as I don't want to scare him off. He then pooed in his nappy and said, I'm pooing! Is he just not ready yet or should I persevere with asking/putting him on potty at his usual elimination times?

I say try going the whole hog and take the nappies off for a few days and see what happens. Nice weather at mo so he can go round nekked.

Love the expression "usual elimination times." btw.

It's a physical thing. He is just not ready. He is recognising the sensation of pooing but is not recognising the feeling of needing to poo. It will come, but it is normal for children to get the hang of doing a wee in the potty/toilet but not of doing a poo.
