My DS is 26 months. He used to be interested in the potty, used to sit on it for a while, sometimes even managed to poo or wee in it. We never forced him. He also started asking to be put on the toilet. However we noticed that he only ever goes on the potty or the toilet when he wants to delay going to bed.

I thought last week's good weather was a sign to start wearing his little pants with Thomas on them we bought together. But no. He refuses to use the potty, and wetting his pants makes him very anxious. Yesterday we spent the morning in pants and he spent the entire time fretting about soiling the furniture. He kept touching his pants, and only sat on the sofa with a large cushion underneath. He even put the cushion on me, so I would not get wet when he cuddled up to me.

I asked the nursery. He has never used the potty or the toilet there, despite copying everything his little mates do.

I think he knows perfectly well what he is expected to do, but he just does not want to start using a potty / toilet. Is he not ready? Shall I wait and try later? Is there anything else I should do?

Thanks a lot.

Yes, wait for a while. He's interested and in the right tract, which is great, but it sounds like he's not quite confident enough to go for it at the moment.
