Is it wise to go to Toddler Group on the 3rd day of training?

We're on day 2 of Potty Training, it's going quite well so far, only a few accidents. DS1 seems to be quite enjoying going on the potty.

I wanted to try a new toddler group tomorrow morning and had agreed to meet a friend there- is this a big no-no?

I can't see DS1 being able to rememeber to go on potty during play. I would keep reminding him of course.

Also, when he had pants on yesterday, he wet himself. He is fine without clothing on the bottom half.

I was v lucky DD1 just got in by the afternoon of Day 1 (although we had previously had 2 abortive attempts) and we only had the very occasional accident after that.

It is probably quite ambitious but at the same time you can't stay at home forever, and it's not like there won't have been a child had an accident at a toddler group before.

Worst case scenario he has a few accidents and you have to go home...he may surprise you.

I would go armed with potty, several changes of clothes, wipes etc. Alternatively you could just pop a pull up on him while you are out, i know all the books say this is a big no no but we did this a couple of times with DD1 (we flew to the Canaries only 2 weeks in and she wouldn't use the plane loos) and it didn't set us back at all.

In my case I would say no.. but every child is different. I took DS to toddler group during 6th day of potty training when he was still having accidents and he ended up having 3 accidents there. Now after many months, even though he would have no accidents at all with us that week, he goes into the toddler group and starts having accidents straightaway for no reason at all. It's as though he associates the playgroup with the fact that he is ok to wet himself. Maybe I'm wrong...

Like I said, every child is different so you may be pleasantly surprised.

I didn't. Partly because ds took so long and the toilets are skanky at toddler group and it seemed too cold to get him undressed if he was wet.

And when we did venture out to places like that we used the feel 'n learn pull ups just in case, he didn't pee in them but it made it a less stressful experience. I just took him to the loo at the start and finish of the group.

I'd go. Take lots of change of pants, trousers, socks and just accept that there'll be accidents. Take him to the toilets to show him where they are and just so he knows what there like. Then tell him he needs to come and find you when he feels a wee/poo coming.
Any succes he has on a foriegn toilet will boost his confidense and any accidents can be played down. Also before you go out you can ask him if he wants to take his potty or use the toilets at playgroup. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice everyone. This is all very new for us. I still can't quite believe that we're actually potty training!

I think I might go for half hour and offer potty before we go. Will take it with us too. I've never seen anyone with a potty at my usual toddler group before- I think most people use pull ups.

Yes, give it a try. It's a toddler group - I'm sure they will be used to accidents!

To answer my own question, no it is not wise to go to toddler group on 3rd day of potty training.

DS1 was simply too engrossed in play to take time out to wee on potty/toilet. I did take him to the potty to give him opportunity.

After 2 accidents we went home. Nevermind, worth a try.

No accidents at home today at all though
