My DS was 3 on sunday and last thursday he decided that he'd like a sweety so he went on the potty. We tried pt over easter but stopped after 2 weeks for various reasons.
He's wearing pull-up nappies and for the past few days (whilst at home) he's been on the potty loads. With out being promted to.
I think he's really just doing it for the sweets.
I didn't intend to do pt now. I was going to try again in the summer hols.
I don't know how to procede now. Should I move to real pants in order to make the sweets more worth it and hopefully get there faster?
Or should I cut the sweets out and see if he continues it with out them?
Help, please!!

I have no advice but just wanted to let you know that my DD1 who will be 3 very soon is like your son. I think if he is going to potty without prompted, I might continue to just go along with him. My DD is still in nappies and she tries sometimes on toilet or potty to get sweeties and I think it's not such a bad thing if she's producing something in there. Whenever I tried to take hardline approach and changed her into real pants, I would get cross and couldn't handle it when she would wet herself constantly. So she is still in nappies.

Hi bluecats thanks for responding to my thread. I was wondering why no one had.
I got a tip from a friend with regards to all the sweeties. He now has two jars. The big one full of sweets stays in living room where potty is and a smaller empty one is in kitchen. He gets a sweet after every deposit in potty but they go into his jar in the kitchen. He's allowed to eat the sweeties in the kitchen jar after his meals. And if I think there are too many in there I can remove some with out him knowing.
Its settled down alot today though. Only big wees in potty. No more squeezing out little drops for a sweetie. So I'm pleased. Going to put him in real pants after pre-school tomorrow and I'm hopeful he'll do well.

2 sweet jars is good - I can see my DS knowing some were missing though

Today there's only ever been 4-5 in there at any one time and they'r tiny harribos. It does seem that delaying his gratification is having a positive effect.
