Potty training before going on big holiday? Eek!

Would appreciate some voices of experience here

DD is 2.3yo and definitely ready for toilet training, well, she's pretty much doing it. She knows she she's going, tells us when she wants to go, is very happy to use the potty or toilet and asks to use them often. Has had a couple of accidents indoors but nothing out of the ordinary there. We haven't 'formally' trained her IYKWIM, this has just happened.

At the beginning of August the whole family is going to New York and then home by ship, a two week trip. Having a newly toilet trained toddler around NY etc seems like my idea of hell on earth so I was considering waiting till we get back. It would be infinitely easier if she was in nappies. But August is still a fairr way away and it's becoming obvious that by leaving it I'm holding her back.

I should get her out of the nappies, shouldn't I?

Rockbird, this sounds just like us! My DD is 2 yr 4 m and started asking to go to the toilet so we went with it - no plan, no bootcamp, no stickers, just lots of praise. We took our time and phased out nappies. At first it was after dinner only, then after breakfast, but used pull-ups for any outings.

Anyway, after about a week of trying to go all day without nappies we headed off to Scotland on holiday (from Dublin - 6 hours of car journey and 2 on a ferry). We put on pullups for the car and boat just in case, but went to the loo at every opportunity. When we were out and about we brought a change of clothes and some kitchen roll/wipes for mop ups, but still made sure we used loos when we could find them. We only had one day of accidents when she was too busy playing with new toys and kids, but that was it. At the end of the week, the pullups were on again for the return journey, but were dry all day! Dare I say it, it was a piece of piss!

By August, I'm sure your little one will be nappy free and used to it. Just bring plenty of pants, and remember to put the emergency change 'kit' in your handbag. Bring her to the toilet when you can before any traveling and you'll be ok!
