Hi we tried to pt our DS who was 2.10yrs over easter hols. We gave up for three reasons, firstly even after 2wks it seemed like the only reason he went on the potty was for the sweets, secondly when we were out at friends or play group he refused to stop to use potty, and thirdly he seemed especially stressed on play dates. Had lots of melt downs which is not like him.

When we try again in a couple of months, should I use pull ups when we go out. Would this lesson the anxiety for him?
It seemed that my prompts agrivated him but with out them he'd just go in his pants?
Am I missing something here?

I used them with ds to work up to going cold turkey. In the end, he refused to do it for us but within 4 days of starting nursery, he was dry day and night!
Different techniques work for different kids. Try it - if it doesn't work try another approach.

yeah, I'm getting the impression from reading other pt threads that we gave up too soon.
