how do you clean the potty?

We are on wk 3 and doing very well I think, but I seem to be up and down the stairs half the day, emptying wee in the toilet then cleaning out the potty. I wipe it with tissue, then a quick squirt of anti-bac before another wipe. Am I being OTT on the cleaning front or does everybody do this? (no downstairs loo and he still has just seconds to spare once he's realised he needs a wee, so no time to dash him upstairs). TIA for reading a ridiculous question.

You are more vigilant than me but we have been going a long time, it only gets used rarely now but I rinse it out with water (for a wee) and at the end of the day stick it in the bath with some toilet duck and leave it overnight. Is that awful?

MrsBadger · 21/04/2010 14:58

I just empty and rinse after wee, but after poo (ie at least once a day) it gets wipe/squirt/wipe

we do have a downstairs loo though which mnakes it easier

bluecardi · 21/04/2010 14:59

By pass the potty if possible & use the loo. So much easier!

katechristie · 21/04/2010 15:18

thanks. maybe will ease up on the cleaning then and just do the anti-bac at end of the day. (or at this rate I'll end up spending the money I'm svaing on nappies on extra tissue and anti-bac!!!)

I keep offering the toilet regularly, but he says no, then will want a wee seconds later sometimes and need it there and then, so no time to dash upstairs (without yet another pair of pant to wash out too). gosh it's a tiring business this potty training lark. and we're coming to it late as he's on movicol for chronic constipation, so it's not been so easy to do up till now. glad I avoided it last summer when DD was tiny.

i'm much lazier than all you, i throw the wee in the kitchen sink and rinse potty and sink with water.
At end of day I wash sink with bit of bleach

(I should add that we do have a washing up bowl which I move first!)

RGPargy · 22/04/2010 23:50

The poo and wee (and loo roll!) in the potty goes down the toilet and then i wipe, quick swish under the cold tap of the bath, down the loo again, anti-bac on the potty, wipe.

lovechoc · 27/04/2010 20:34

if it's a pee, we just flush the urine down the loo and then I give the potty quick swirl with hot water from the tap and chuck that down the loo.

If it's a poo however, then I dispose of the poo down the loo (oh that rhymes!) and then get a spot of disinfectant and add hot water to it in the potty and have a special poo cloth that I use to give it a good clean then rinse out well with water again and dry with toilet tissue.

IMoveTheStars · 27/04/2010 20:36

kitchen sink?

ergh.. just don't do it anywhere else

MinnieMummy · 27/04/2010 20:37

Normal baby wipe or just loo roll if feeling lazy after a wee, Flash wipe or similar after a poo. Second the notion to train to use the loo - then you just have to wipe it off the edge of bowl/floor/legs/feet

MinnieMummy · 27/04/2010 20:37

Also, it's not a silly question, it's one I too asked when starting all this malarkey!

RGPargy · 27/04/2010 21:23

Aren't you NOT supposed to flush wipes down the loo coz they block up the drains??

IMoveTheStars · 27/04/2010 22:01

the answer to the OP is 'tip contents into toilet and wipe with toilet roll. Wash after eacg Code Brown, or just at the end of the day when you wipe round the bathroom'

MinnieMummy · 28/04/2010 21:55

Oh I don't put the wipes down the loo - they go into a nappy bag and then wait til DD (still in nappies) needs changing! The amount of usage our potty is getting at the mo our drains would have backed up in half a day if I did that..!

btw Jareth you wipe round your bathroom every evening? Impressive!

NoahAndTheWhale · 28/04/2010 22:00

I used to swirl it round with some water. If there was poo I would wipe it with a fleece wipe and get poo off. Trying to remember if I did ever use anything antibacterial - probably didn't.

cookielove · 28/04/2010 22:05

Well slightly different, but from s nursery point of view, empty contents into childrens toliets, rinse with tap water, then if poo paper towel, and anti bac if a wee then just spray and leave to air dry, it is very much like a production line, we have 6 children potty training at the moment, so can be quite hectic

onebadbaby · 28/04/2010 22:14

I wouldn't put it down the kitchen sink!!!!!!

IMoveTheStars · 28/04/2010 23:10

Minnie - I don't, DP does

I never clean the bathroom! Kitchen is my domain, so if anybody tipped piss in my sink I would be mucho pissed off
