Great with no pants on!

DS is 2.5. He would happily go in the potty all day if he had no pants on.
As soon as the underpants or the pull-ups go on, he forgets.
How do i get past this bit? Or is it just a matter of time?

am in exact same boat, am awaiting replies!

My ds was the same, i found tried him with boxers shorts instead and he never wet them, has never wore pants since, he's 5 now

FreakoidOrganisoid · 21/04/2010 13:05

Ds is exactly the same.

I have averted a couple of accidents by seeing his hand go to his willy and reminding him to pull his pants down and use the potty so hopefully it's just a matter of time until it clicks.

I'm having the same problem with DD 2, although I realised that she can't actually tak them off by herself. now whenever she has pull-ups on (night, naps etc) i get her to take them off so she can pracrise. the plan is that when she can take them on and off by herself i will try her with normal pants again

yeah, trying to practice too!
now maybe isn't the time to stress about it though, he just got chickenpox today!!

im having exactly the same problem my DD is 2 and half. if in all day no nappy on and potty sitting there she goes by herself happily without telling me, but as soon as she has pull ups, or even a pair of knickers she has accidents in them, she knows how to take them on and off but the same just forgets, cause she drinks loads and loads she goes to do a wee every 20 mins to half an hour so have asked her does she need wee wee when she has pull ups on but she just says no. hopefully she pass this phase soon

We need someone to tell us it will pass!!
Or how to fix it!

We had this problem too, and it does pass. Have you tried a star chart - every time they do a poo or pee on the potty they earn a star - ten stars and you'll buy them a much longed for toy - that seemed to do the trick for us.

whatname · 21/04/2010 21:44

thought about charts for lots of things, but he still doesn't seem to get the "do this and you get this" kinda thing
with food or anything. My friend did chocolate but I just think that's scary!!

You could try giving him just one smartie, when he gets it right, or a few raisons.

Admittedly, the star chart didn't work with us the first time we tried to potty train at 2 yrs 5 months, but the second time, he was 2yrs 7 months, and seemed to 'get it' then.

With ds1 I put him in loose jogger trousers with no pants underneath. Halfway-house between naked and pants. That seemed to work ok.
