Poo regression two weeks into training

DS1 (3.2) has been in pants for two weeks. Wees no problem at all (got the idea on day one), poos took three days but fine since then. Except that today he has pooed in his pants once, on the floor once and in the potty not at all. No warning of either accident, just did it then told me he'd pooed.

Is this part of the normal pattern of training? And how best to handle it?

  • not as bad as DS who greeted me at the bottom of the stairs with a lump in his hand and said excitedly mummy I did a poo!!! - TBF he has chronic constipation, so a poo in the potty was a real achievement, never mind, to do it by himself whilst I dashed DD upstairs to change her nappy!

I spoke to the manager at the nursery to ask how she thought he was doing, as he still sometimes forgets the wees even, and she said anything is perfectly normal with potty training. Some can take longer than others to get it and some can go backwards for a while.

(I have to admit, this is so far my least favourite bit of parenting, I keep reminding myself it was done for me as a toddler and trying to remind myself how well he is doing, - oh for a downstairs loo!!!)
