DD is 2y7m and has only ever been in nappies. She has a couple of potties and knows what they are for, but aside from discussing that she will do wees and poos in a potty one day when she feels ready, the most action we've seen is a 2 second sit on the potty followed by a jump up and announcement of "no wee wee / poo poo today!" She got some big girl knickers for Christmas but we haven't actually used them yet.

She definitely knows when she's about to poo as she goes off to hide to do it secretly in her nappy, behind a curtain or the sofa!

However, we haven't actually attempted to take her out of her nappies - presumably this is what we start with, right? Jeez, I need an idiot's guide to this malarky. We've been in no rush to begin as we've just had a new baby and thought that was enough upheaval for her to deal with for the time being. But I probably should get a bit more clued up.

Take pity on me please. Give me a step by step guide on HOW to potty train. I truly have no idea.

Oh,and any book recommendations for her - she loves books so much that might help too.

Good luck. I'm afraid the only advice I can offer from my own experience is 'let the nursery do it' as that was what worked with my DS who had been resisting the idea at home.

Good advice! However she only attends 2 half days a week so she may get a little backed up if we attempt it just now. Very tempting to delegate though!
