I've spent the last 2 years pissing and crapping infront of ds so he thinks of using the toilet as normal.

in one weekend i think DH has ruined it all by teaching DS that the toilet and poo is disgusting.

everytime i use the loo ds points and goes eeeeurgh.
everytime ds has a dirty nappy he points and goes eeeeurgh.

i'm now worried about poo phobias, holding poo in, refusing to use the loo etc.

can this be sorted by the summer, when i was planning to start potty training?

hopefully am i worrying about nothing.

I wouldn't worry too much. Just be breezy- say "better out than in". Or get dh to take charge.

we've seemed to have got into a pattern of saying "poooo-ey!" and honky ponky when changing our ds's nappies.

They have both been in washables so have seen their poo being flushed down the loo, and always toddled into the bathroom when DH or I am on the loo.

Just keep on with the positive stuff. It'll all work out ok. Good luck!

i do ignore it and make out that toilet time is the bestest fun ever but he has been doing it for over a month now.

think i will make dh take a week off work so he can do potty training!

every time you change a crappy nappy, I'd say, "ooooh....looooovely poooo, good boy"

Henrietta · 05/02/2010 21:44

dont worry about it - mine have always followed me into loo, i dont really comment on anything in there.

When changing nappies I say pooooey with screwed up face and my youngest now says Yak. but I just say we'll clean you up and put the poo down the toilet. He my 3rd and sometimes does poo in potty now at 2YO. you'll prob start with potty anyway so you just stay positive about behaviour (good boy you've done a poo) but can say yes its yukky shall well put it down toilet.

You can overcome it, just go back to how you were and make enthusiastic noises when he produces.

And tell your DH you don't expect a repeat performance

EssenceOfJack · 05/02/2010 22:22

I wouldn't worryk, DD2 tells me she has done a poo by announcing 'Mummeeeee, stinky bum'
DD1 was always a bit 'ew' with poos but it meant when she was potty trained it was a breeze to get her to use the loo as she could flush it immediately and not have toi 'deal' with it, so it may work in your favour a little bit.
Just tell DH not to do it again.

Just tell him "poo is smelly, that's why we do it in the toilet" and dump the contents of his nappy in the toilet. TBH I think it sounds more like a sign your DS is ready to train.

I'd ignore it too...my 2.5 year old hated doing a poo on his potty, but he does it now. They soon start doing it in their own time anyway, so I wouldn't worry too much.
