2 Yr old DS wanting to 'wee like Daddy' - Advise please

My 2 Yr old DS has suddenly taken an interest in the toilet after stubbornly refusing to go anywhere near a potty for ages.
Of course I am happy he's interested, but wonder if he is old enough to be able to wee in the toilet standing on a step?
This morning he proudly stood in front of the toilet and looked down at his willy saying 'come out wee'. But he isn't holding it or pointing anywhere near the toilet. I have visions of puddles of wee everywhere but in the toilet.
Any advise or experience????

If he wants to, I'd say let him. I found it more of a problem when my 2 year old DD was desperate to wee like her big brother. Strangely, she really couldn't make her wee hit the pan when standing facing the loo.

Just let him. Get a few cheapo mat thingies for round the pan and let him try. You can change them regularly until he gets the idea. it will save you a job transitioning to the toilet later!

I have heard of these little things you put in the pan to give them something to aim for - no idea of the name,b ut I think they are blue dots or something..... Maybe someone else will have a link...

Ds has only ever weed standing up, though he was nearer 3 when he potty trained.
Sounds fine, though have wiping materials handy!

Let him have a go. It's often easier to start off sitting down but you'll be teaching him how to do it standing up anyway so if he's keen and it means he wants a go, then I would let him. You'll have a few spills but you would have spills to begin with anyway. I second nickytwotimes advice to make sure you have wiping up stuff handy!
Good luck.
