How do you start the whole process of potty training?

I know it sounds like a silly question but I want to make sure i start it with knowing what to do & what to expect.

My dd is 18 mts but i want to start it real slow at the moment so she can get use to the whole idea but need advice on how to go about it.

I think she is very slowly getting ready for it as lately she lets us know if she wants to be changed by saying "bum" although not everytime only when it bothers her a little more then normal as sometimes she will be quite happy to sit in her dirty nappy untill i realise she needs a change & have to force her to the floor lol with her resisting.

I would wait a bit tbh - 18mths is young.
If you do start, make sure you have a potty handy in the rooms she spends most time in, cancel your social engagements for a few days to give her chance to get into the swing of things, take her to choose some lovely undies to make her feel a big girl about it all and then get some good nights' sleep, build up your resilience and go for it!
Good luck

Thank you

Yh ive just read some posts and has decided to wait although I want to get a potty so she can get use to the idea of it being around and explain to her what it will be use for.

Having the potty around so dd can have a sit on it as and when she wants to is a good idea.
Hope it goes well when you do start.

I used a book called Toilet Training in Less Than a Day by Azrin and Fox that gave a lot of pre-training tips and recommended activities. I read a lot of books on the process before embarking on it, but weirdly this was the one that I really liked.

I started the process very slowly when dd was 1yr old by using a method called EC. Have you heard of it? I used it with my first dd and she was out of nappies before her 2nd birthday.

I found it extremely gentle and non pressured. My dd is 20mths now and last week she pee'd on the potty for first time and yesterday did a poo. Still early days but we're definitely getting there.

You can find info on EC here wp.me/pFWj1-3n

Good luck. It takes a whole lot of patience.
