Happy to sit on potty or toilet but will only wee in knickers

Am starting to get concerned about my DD. She's 2 years and 3 months and has been potty training since boxing day. Very slow progress, and she had a few days where she didn't want to sit on the potty at all. When she did wee in the potty, DH and I went into overdrive praising and telling her how clever she was etc etc, but the success rate seemed to go down.

Last Monday the penny seemed to drop and all of a sudden she started to tell me when she needs a wee and was happy to go the potty. The problem is that she'll sit for anything from 5 seconds to 5 minutes before she says she wants to get off, but never actually does the wee that she so obviously needs. This might be repeated for up to an hour and several sits on the potty before she finally wees in her knickers.

Any ideas what might be going on with her? She is drinking enough, but not loads - never has. Best not talk about poo - that happens without warning in her knickers too.

After nearly a month of trying with no success I think I'd be stopping and trying again in a few weeks/months. She's still young so maybe she's just not ready? I stopped PT my DS when we were still having a few accidents a day after a few weeks, waited a few weeks and started again just before xmas. This time round he clicked straight away and it has been so much easier.

Maybe she's happier to do it on the loo? My dd (a bit younger at 23 months, she's not quite ready for proper training yet) would also rather poo in her knickers than on the potty but she will happily go knicker free on the loo.

I'm inclined to agree with you, ziggyf. We have the same results on the toilet as on the potty. She's at nursery for a couple of days now, and they always have more success than me, so we'll see how they get on and perhaps stop at the weekend.
