how do i get him dry at night?

after many long months my ds 2.7 is now dry during the day, i want to give it another week before tackling night times but not too sure how to go about it. any ideas? he naps occasionally, do i start there? he drinks alot 12+ big sportster cups a day and his nappy is always full if not leaking by the morning. my mum told me what she did with me. sit on potty before getting into bed then when we go up keeping him asleep put him on potty and say 'wee wee' is this right?

you can't rely train them in the same way

night dryness is controlled by hormone and untilt his kicks in, you can't force it

my DS is 3.5 years and been dry in the day for a year but still wakes up with a wet nappy

i am waiting until we at least have a couple of dry morning nappies until we go nappy free at night

I did read once that lifting children to wee in their sleep is counterproductive as it is teachign them to wee in their sleep.

I agree with ruby - you have to wait until they are ready. Some kids are ready at 2, others at 7. I don't think they refer for bedwetting until 7, its normal till then.

Hope you work it out ok. I'd say, don't set your ds up for failure and make it an issue, though.

blimey. I wouldn't bother! My ds was at least 3 when this happened and I know alot of kids are alot older.

It's completely about readiness, not training imo. With the daytimes, it took DS one day or two to 'get' toilet 'trained' because he was ready...and with the nights, he himself asked not to have a nappy on when he was over 3.

I would just relax about it, don't see why it has to be part of a training regime tbh.

It is as simple as that IMO. You can train for night tme dryness, and it is purely a case of "when he is ready."

DD was dry during the day at 24 months. She was only consistently dry at night from 6y. This was despite her huge desire to be dry at night. But she just wasnt able to be physically, nothing any of us could do.

She came out of reusuable night nappies at 4y at her request, and just has some reseable bed mats from there on in.

Lifting, etc made no difference.

The only change we did make which did help DD was to ensure that she only ever drank water after about 3:30pm.

Unfortunately, you can't 'get' him dry, it is a matter of waiting until physical maturity of the bladder thus it can hold for 12 hours or so.

For most children the earliest this can happen is three years but I don't know many children who are dry at night at three.

I would imagine that when you've had two weeks or so of consistantly dry nappies in the morning you could give it a try.

From what I've read lifting at 10pm or so is not recommended.

(My dd1 was dry at night at 3.5 years old. DD2 is just turned three I don't see she'll be ready to more like four years)
