DS's willy doesn't fit in potty

DS2 is not that big, he's kind of chubby though, and when he sits on a potty his willy is squashed between his thighs and just sticks up, so the wee is like a little arc onto the carpet . Bless him, he's been trying but its just not working for him. I try to push it down but it means I have to try to squeeze it between his legs and its not nice for him. So we're now trying a toilet but again the training seats dont seem to work for him. Perhaps he has a sticking up willy??? It looks fairly normal... Anyone else had this trouble??

Try bending his knees up and opening his legs as far as they will go?

Toilet inserts are just as bad, get him used to sitting on toilet is best bet

Yes, we did with DS2. We solved it by getting him to stand up to pee. He has a little stool and one of us stands behind him and I sort of bend him slightly backwards. The wee falls perfectly into the toilet.

That's when he doesn't just do it in his pants.

And yes, I agree about the toilet inserts. If he is happy to sit on the toilet, sit him quite far back so that he can open his legs wide enough (you might need to take his trousers off completely).

we had to strip ds from the waist down to get him to pee ok on the toilet. They have to sit with their legs wide (without a toilet insert) and hold onto the side or front of the toilet seat. It is much easier when they learn to stand up to pee although the aim isnt always true then either!!

have you tried turning the potty the other way around.. if it's a normal potty shaped potty.. witha front and a higher wider back.

it'll make him spread his legs wider and he can push his penis down and the back of the potty will sort of hold it in place .

Yes I could never work out how we were meant to use a potty - as soon as DS sat on it, his willy was nowhere near the bowl. We had a soft toilet insert seat from John Lewis that worked very well for a while, but we soon moved to just the toilet (which also makes things much easier when you're out and about - I know children who will only wee when on their own special potty or insert so it has to be lugged around with them, what a PITA).

Once sat on the toilet, get him to lean forward with bum as far back as possible, and if he's anxious about the toilet, of course the traditional choc button for every wee in the toilet (2 for a poo!) works wonders

turn the potty around, so the high bit that is meant to be the back is at the front. my DS always used it the wrong way round.

don't use a potty. use a stool and stand over the toilet

Thanks every one for the replies - we had tried him on a toilet wihtout a seat but he just seems a bit anxious of it as he seems to be falling in - perhaps we need to try some more. Good idea on on turning the potty round, I may need to get a new one as the one we have has a very high back - like a seat. We'll figure it out though! - Thanks

Love that motorbike one ooops! Thats ace! I've just recently gone for the bumbo seat that you put on the toilet and it seems to be good as well although we do still get some escaped wee but it mainly falls back in the loo... Wish I'd checked this thread a few days ago! Thanks!
