Potty training tactics for stand-up wee-er?

Have been trying to train DS (2.3) for about a week. We have managed a few drops here and there, plus two proper wees. No poo at all, and although he hasn't wet on the floor, he will wet his training pants.

Was in fact getting v reluctant to sit on the potty, but is very keen on standing up and weeing - voluntarily produced one of those in the potty tonight.

If that's how he's happy doing it, I'll go with it - but are there any good techniques or tips? Not least to deal with his v uncertain aim!

DS (2.6) just stands with his willy (his word, not mine!) flopped over the side of the toilet bowl, so no aim required!

hold the potty up with his willy over the side and you prevent most of the spillage

mine refused to use the potty at all - went straight from nappies to using the loo (I say straight - it took weeks if not months!)

Step stool if he needs one to reach over the toilet seat (DS stands with his feet on mine and can reach) and for incentive, a handful of cereal in the bowl or a piece of toilet paper in the bowl to aim at. "See if you can hit the cheerios!"

Oh, regards aiming, I find it best to leave his willy alone and pivot his hips as necessary.

The cereal and toilet paper tip just made me choke on my tea! Loving your work...

Thanks, this all sounds good. Bought a step stool today and tried to find one of those blue ping pong ball thingies for boys to aim at (didn't find any though).

Just put him in his fabbo Thomas pants... and he promply leaked on them. So it's commando at home till he gets the message, I think...
