Pls can someone explain how to persaude my son NOT to poo his pants!

He's been doing a poo in his pants daily for well over 6 weeks now! He's dry in every other way night and day but flatly refuses to do a poo on the toilet, in a nappy (wont wear them again) - just in his pants. I'm pregnant with our 4th and suffering terribly from PGP and so bending down or sitting on the floor is awful and I'm getting to a point where I'm loosing my rag with him and shouting. If I catch him close to doing one he seems to pull back and this then can go on for up to 4 days! Whilst plenty of friends have said this means he's "anal" no one has just offered a workable solution. Attempts to get him to sit on the potty/toilet completely fail and last night he cried for 3 hours and finally fell asleep, got up this morning and pooed his pjs instead!

My DD did exactly this, so frustrating, and we too tried everything!

She'd disappear in a corner somewhere and if i caught her she'd stop herself from going - She'd say it hurt on the toilet/potty.

The only thing that did the trick, was when she joined nursery, seeing other kids sayint they were going toilet to do it ~(not literally i dont think but just wanting to copy them was enough to snap her out of it) - she now never poo's in her pants but has gone back to wetting the bed

I hope its the same for you and this is a phase.

my 2.10 DD has just started doing this as well She pumps quite a lot after lunch, so we go off to the toilet - she is doing great for wees!

But, she is adamant she doesnt need a poo, and cries if i try and get her to sit and try. Am following a previous poster's advice as of tomorrow and will get some bubbles so she can sit and blow bubbles while trying to poo.

How old is he?
Is he constipated, if so then look at the childhoodconstipation website. Pooing your pants is a sign of constipation..

My DD was exactly the same - am ashamed to say that after about 6 weeks of cajoling and patience wearing very thin we resorted to Maltesers! Every time she did a poo on the loo she could have a couple of maltesers, and it worked - but she is a simple child where chocolate will persuade her to do anything

i WONDERED IF HE MIGHT BE CONSTIPATED TOO, oops, sorry for shouting. I assumed dd wasn't constipated because she was pooing pants. If this is the case, ime only way ahead is to get them on a high enough dose of movicol for them to go without pain, then to keep them on the movicol for long enough for them to forget about the pain. Then wean off movicol VERY gradually whilst potty training. If you can't get your GP to prescribe movicol, then see a specialist.

I'd really recommend this book.

Sorry, after all that, she may not be constipated at all. If this is the case, then the only advice I can give is "this is just a stage"!!!
