DC (2.5) has good bladder control but won't use potty / toilet...

hello,

does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can encourage my DC (2.5) to actually wee in the potty or on the toilet?

she won't wear a nappy all the time any more, but pulls one on as soon as she needs the toilet, does the toilet, then takes it right off again.

it's like she's using the nappy as a comfort thing though - she sometimes pretends to wee on her potty or on the toilet but it's as if she can't bring herself to actually do it! she eventually starts to panic and asks for her nappy again. she's never had an accident though.

i've tried lots of gentle encouragement and even outright bribes re: the potty - i don't want to make a big thing of it but do want to help her be nappy-free, as she doesn't seem to want to be in one: any ideas?

I'd also be interested in anyone else's thoughts as my dd of the same age is very similar. Sometimes she says that she wants to wee in her potty then seems to 'bottle out' at the last minute.

Well I looked at this post last week and hopelessly did not bother to respond as this is exactly the same problem I have been battling with for months. DD (3.1) would hold it and then ask for a nappy to go in.

I bought a potty yesterday and did not put a nappy on all day, whenever she asked for "pants" (nappy) I said "no, potty". She got quite upset but I held out while also showing her a play dough set I had bought as a reward, telling her she could have it if she used the potty. It was a pretty stressful day I have to say, many tantrums on both sides! She finally went and today has not even asked for pants just used the potty all day. I know it is early days but at least we have got started.
