Loves the pants, hates the potty! Help!

Hi, We are on day 3 of potty training. Ds is 2.8 and wants to wear big boy pants and shows all signs for readiness, but doesn't like potty/toilet seat etc. Holds wee in for ages and mostly has accidents, unless I manage to catch him quickly enough. He's waking from lunchtime nap with dry nappy too, and can hold wee for up to 5 hours. It's like he's adamant he won't wee on the potty. (But defo doesn't want nappy either)
Have tried encouragement, stickers, sweets and loads of praise, but am wondering if i should step back and let him take the lead, even if it means loads of accidents?
Anyone been in this situation before?
Any tips/advice?

Just wondering but would he like to sit on the toilet instead of the potty.

Also how about having set times or routine times for him to sit on the toilet (whether he does anything or not) Like getting up, after breakfast, before lunch, mid afternoon, before tea, before bed. It might help if he realises that he can go at these times, it worked for my DD and i'm hoping it will work with DS who i'm going to start to train in the next few weeks.

Taking a step back and being really chilled about it all helps aswell but is very difficult to.

Thanks very much - the set times is a great idea, as DS likes routine! Will try that and the toilet tomorrow.

We got a smaller seat for the loo for DD and she will quite happily sit there now we have renamed it 'the princess throne' . You have to make sure they can get up and down though, we have a two step thing from Ikea which DD then drags to the sink to wash her hands afterwards.

Did he pick the potty? I took DD to Ikea as she fell out with her white potty (I have no idea why) but picked out two she loves from Ikea (red and black ) and will happily use them now.

But we've moved to the loo simply because I don't want to schlepp a plastic pot of wee around the shops with us!

We've gone through twelve pairs of trousers in four days (which I don't think is bad considering it's our first four days and we've gone hardcore (only nappies at bedtime)) so do hang in there, it will all come together eventually.

He's a boy, he can stand to do his wees - what my daughter would give to be able to do that!

Draw a spot with a marker pen in the potty and get him to aim at it. He doesn't even need to sit (no ideas for no.2s though!).

OP - how did this go? Am in first week of potty training here and after initial success (2 days with one accident, then dry since Wednesday) DD1 has suddenly developed an aversion for the potty.... wondering about the set times approach.

She struggles to get on and off the toilet by herself though.
