My DD is 2 years 4 months. For a while now we have been battling with her taking her nappy off but always managed to get it back on. About a week ago, during our bedtime chat she said "no more nappies mummy". So I thought I would try potty training. I read the Gina Ford book (mistake?) and so the next day I showed her her shiny new pink potty and her new pants and took the nappy off. By the end of day 1 she had done a wee in the potty, great I thought. Day 2 she had to go to nursery but it is a small nursery (for the morning)and were happy to help. They said she had 2 accidents but used the potty twice, they even gave her her "choc choc" reward when she was successful.

The following days have not been so good! This morning is day 6 and I think we've had about 3 hits and the rest misses. She knows when she's going to do a "poop poop" which is what she calls everything and either puts her hand down or wiggles a bit. Sometimes she heads for the potty. The most of the time not though. The thing is that she doesn't seem to mind having an accident and even likes to play in the puddle. I try not to make a big deal of it and not show my frustration. (although I do take her away from it immediately!) She does sit on a potty hoping to produce something so she can have choc choc but gives up after a while.

She does wear a nappy for sleeping and naps although I do have to go up and put it back on her when she is asleep as she removes it. When she wakes up in the morning the first thing we hear her saying is "poop poop" mummy and removes her nappy.

Now ... yesterday I was at my wits end so I thought maybe she just isn't ready, no big deal we'll put her back in nappies and try again later. But she refuses to wear a nappy now and has major tantrums. She just says pants pants pants.

What to I do??!! How do I persuade her that accidents aren't good and that potty is great?? (I do offer choc choc bribes!). I'm thinking of going to get some training pull up nappies to see if they help but I'm out of ideas and going nuts. Our washing machine and floors can't take much more!

BTW, we have a 9 month old DS who is about to start crawling too!

Sorry this is so long, I'm just trying to give a good picture of what we're stuck in so that somebody might have an idea. Thank you for reading!

Pullups. She isn't ready yet.

Thank you, that was my plan. I've just got to get her to wear them! We have regular pull-up nappies which she just removes immediately. I was thinking of the pink princess potty training nappies I've seen, maybe they will work. She is soooo stubborn!!!

I've got her in a nappy!!!! I'm going to get her some special pink pullups and see if they help her be happier in nappies and then try again when the weather is better when we can use the garden. I thought, surely this isn't right when it took so long with no progress but people kept saying stick with it, it takes weeks sometimes. Really?

All the "Gina Ford" signs were there but cold turkey definitely didn't work. I think I may try a more gradual approach next time. Why put us all under unnecessary stress!

Once she is ready it will take a week, tops.

i put pants on over the top of the nappy! we are on day 1 of potty training and so far carpet 6 potty 0.

dont wait for her to go to the potty encourage and sit her on every 30 mins or so really praise when she goes

i left pants off my ds to start with for few days sat him on every 30 mins few days later put pants on and left it a bit longer in between times but asked every so often do you need a wee if you do potty is here

i ad one in his room the bathroom and living room and gradually hew as going on his own and i was making huge fuss of it but still needed to ask and remind him and still do and his 4 now dry in day but still needs verbal prompts at times

but if with all this still lots of accidents leave it few weeks and try again just sit on potty at nappy changes or leave nappy off at home nappy on when out

we also has a dolly that sat on its potty all the time

when there ready it shouldn't be so hard so leaving it will make it easier all round if not grasping it yet
