Should I pause potty training for my 28 month old for now

Like the title says… we have been trying to potty train the last couple days but he was obviously holding things in and will refuse to go anywhere but a nappy, I wouldn’t even mind him having an accident. I put the nappy back on so he has relief as he is getting very distressed and he won’t even entertain the potty now, he sat on it once when needing a pee and I really thought he’d go but he didn’t, do I wait another month or 2? He is 28 months old

If he's holding it in I'd keep going because he obviously has control. Try distracting him when on the potty, reading a book or sitting him in front of the TV.

I was not averse to bribery when I was potty training my boys. Chocolate buttons worked wonderfully with DS1, but not so much with DS2 who was also 28 months when we trained. I remember giving him lots of praise for a wee in the potty, and offering him a chocolate button. He was very disappointed with just the one chocolate button and said to me 'want packet!' I realised then that bribery in chocolate form wasn't going to work with him!

Continue with the potty, definitely. He’s old enough.

Don’t put “nappies” back on. Use pants.
Surely he’s peeing in the pot, in the toilet, on the shrubs outside…
