Night-time nappy or pull-up recommendations for child outgrowing size 8

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has any advice or recommendations.

Our DD is fully dry during the day now, but we're still using a nappy at bedtime as she's not consistently dry overnight yet. The problem is she's starting to outgrow Pampers size 8, which we've been using up until now. They still just about fit but are getting quite tight, so I don't think they'll last much longer.

Do nappies come in anything bigger than a size 8 in nappies, or is it a case of moving on to pull ups? If so, what would you recommend? We'd ideally like something that's comfortable and reliable overnight while we wait for her to be dry at night too.

Would really appreciate any suggestions from anyone who's been in the same situation.

Thanks!

Fred and Flo at Tesco do some size 9 I couldn't tell you their reliability.
We moved onto pull ups really quite early with my daughter and pampers do pull up size 9.
Hope this helps x

How old is she? Huggies PJ pants come in big sizes but the age 4-7 is probably about equivalent to a size 8 nappy so if those are snug and DC is older you might need the preteen ones.

HesterLeggatt · 05/07/2026 08:57

Pampers do a size 9 but it’s barely any bigger than an 8. Huggies night time pull-ups do an age 8-12 and a 12-15, or there are online brands like nundies that are good.

Dry nights do 8+
Not quite a full nappy absorbency but haven't had any issues

You don’t say how old she is. I work in a school class with 6 turning 7 year olds and we have 2 in pull ups that fit comfortably in a size 8 and they aren’t small kids. They use supermarket brands - Lidl, Sainsburys etc

She turns 4 in September and is in the 95th percentile for height. I'm 5'11 and DH is 6'4, she’s in mostly 5-6 clothes. I will look at the pyjama pants, we’ve always preferred tabbed nappies at bedtime as she’s a tummy sleeper.

DD is 4.5 and a tummy sleeper but has been in pull ups since she was 2.5. Now dry in the day but still wears pull ups at night. We haven’t had any issues. Why do you think the tummy sleeping will be an issue?

lechatdhenri · 05/07/2026 09:09

Tesco do Junior and Junior plus size nappies, they’re both bigger than size 8s. We also had a large tummy sleeper and pull ups just didn’t work at that age.

When we have tried pull ups in the past with DD she’s always leaked around the waistband and caused a gap, maybe we have just been in between the sizes and they have been too big for her

Pampers go up to size 9 pull ups. I use them for my DD overnight.

Is that in the nappies lovely that they do a 9? I don’t think I’ve seen them before, but I’ve seen their pull ups in the red and white packs

Could be or might be worth trying a different brand. Some brands seem to fit DD better than others. We have also found we have leaks when they are getting too small actually.

We use size 9 pull ups. They work fine. It is great that larger sizes are becoming more mainstream - with my older child I struggled to get bigger than size 6!

In my experience, nighttime pants are rubbish compared to pull ups or nappies. They’re thinner and far far less absorbent (and double the price!)

They now have nappies and pants in both 9 and 9+ which is amazing for us mums of slightly older/bigger kids! Noticed them the other day when buying for my DD

Do they have nappies with the tapes?

Devilsmommy · 07/07/2026 16:49

Pampers baby dry nappy pants come In a size 9 now

HeathenPlayingHouse · 07/07/2026 18:30

Fred and Flo size 9 pull-ups were a godsend for DS6 who is above 99th percentile and still in nappies due to his ASD, I used to order 10 packs at a time in case of shortages. Sadly he’s outgrown them now, so we’re spending a small fortune on DryNites!

My daughter used to have Tesco pull-ups (and there are also some branded ones like Ninja). The branded ones indicate size by age. I think you just need to try pull ups in different sizes. Try getting some free samples - see here for example: www.huggies.co.uk/drynites-free-sample
