Potty training after two weeks, is daily accidents normal?

So we are 2 weeks into potty training and still having accidents daily. He seemed to progress really quickly the first 3 days but still haven’t had an accident free day. He probably averages 2 accidents a day now, 1 always a poo and sometimes 1 wee as well sometimes not.
At home i keep him naked and don’t prompt and he will go himself 90% of the time (wees). Any wee accidents at home are due to him being distracted and will always run to the potty to finish.
When out or at nursery he won’t tell anyone but is taken every 1.5-2 hours and will wee every time.
poos is a different story, he will tell me he is pooing and run to the potty but is always too late.
I have read a lot of posts where people have advised to stop and try again later but I feel like this would really confuse him as he gets when he needs to go and feel he’s nearly there. I’m just looking for any reassurance that he will get there eventually and we’re not wasting time trying.
Did it take anyone else’s child a few weeks to get there?

Yep took a couple of months to go accident free! Your little one is doing really well, well done. And 6 months on we still have the occasional accident which is normal but largely fine!

It sounds like it is going really well to me. For him to go voluntarily 90% of the time shows that he is ready for it. I wouldn't take a break - it would just confuse him. The poo thing sounds familiar. My eldest was quite good with wees but took much longer to learn to do poos without a nappy. I'd say carry on, you - and he - are doing brilliantly.

Thanks so much for the reassurance! My instincts told me to keep to it but couldn’t help feel a bit disheartened seeing all the posts about being dry after 3 days. We will persevere and hopefully get there soon 😊
