4 year old will only wee or poo with nappy on, tips?

I’ve been having real problems toilet training my 4 year old son. He now wears pants but will only wee/poo with a nappy on and will hold it in all day. He does articulate when he needs to go. he will sit on the toilet but won’t do anything on it. Any tips?!

We had this for months it was so stressful. In the end what sorted it was firstly getting them to do the poo in the nappy, whilst sitting on the toilet, lots of praise etc. Then the next time I’d secretly cut a large hole in the bottom of the nappy. Sat them down on toilet in the nappy then when it went into the bowl, again lots of praise and congratulations and they realised they could do it.
i feel for you I remember it being such a stressful time not wanting to pressure them. But them getting so upset if I don’t get a nappy. This worked us for hope it might help
