Night poos!

As the title suggests, my just turned 4yo boy still often poos in his nappy at night (usually first thing in the morning we think when he's not really awake).

He's been day trained since just over 2, but isn't dry at night so we can't take the nappy away.

Anyone else had the same problem?

Is he withholding during the day or is he happy to go for a poo in a toilet if he gets the urge?

If he’s pooing while asleep, it suggests to me there is an element of withholding and I’d be trying to encourage a poo after eating dinner. Let him watch “poo goes to Pooland” and get him a few decent bribes. Mine always get the urge after a hot bath, so I’d be doing dinner, bath, poo, story, bed as the new routine.

No, I thought this for ages so we started encouraging before bed and he quite happily goes when he needs, often asking. Occasional refusal to try before bed when overtired, but doesn't necessarily conflict with a night poo (he did one right before bed last night and still had one this morning!).

What time is he usually going? If it’s the same time could you wake him and put him on the potty and then back to bed?

Is he dry at night? Are you using pull ups at night or normal pants?

Have you tried leaving in a night light, a potty by his bed and some bum wipes and telling him he needs to get up and use the potty wheb he feels the need to poo?
