Poo advice!!

We started potty training our daughter 10 days ago using the Oh Crap! method and she’s honestly done amazingly with wees – no wee accidents since day 3 🎉 We’ve even had some full days out and she’s back at nursery with no issues.
However… poo is a completely different story 😩

Before potty training she was pooing around 4 times a day in her nappy, so thought this would be easy. But this change has really thrown me as I thought she would get it. At first she went a couple of days without doing one at all. Since then she has done atleast one poo per day - a few on the potty, but we’re still having pretty much one poo accident in her knickers a day.

What’s confusing is that she will sometimes sit on the potty for a bit as if she thinks something is coming, then nothing happens… and then a few minutes later she poos in her knickers.

I’m finding this really hard. Mainly I want to know:

  • Is this normal?
  • If so, am I literally just meant to put up with daily poo in her knickers for however long it takes?
  • How long did it take for poo to click when wees were already sorted?
She’s clearly capable as she has done it on the potty, and she’s been brilliant with wees, but I’m not sure what to do differently for poo (or if I should just wait it out). Would really welcome experiences, reassurance or advice from anyone who’s been through similar. Thank you 🙏

It's harder for children to read the signals for a poo compared to a wee, a wee tends to be a quick event.

A poo can be more of a drawn out affair and your daughter is still learning that she might need to have more patience. Patience isn't always a skill young children possess.

It does sound fairly normal and remember it’s only been 10 days (frustrating for you of course).

I’d try getting her to stay on the potty a bit longer, read a book with her or have her in front of the TV
