My 4 year old daughter can do wee’s on the toilet but not poo. It has been going on for 10 months and in the last 2 weeks it goes worse. She says that she can’t feel it coming and that she can’t get to the toilet in time. I’m concerned there’s something physiologically wrong. It’s causing us a lot of stress, having to wash clothes daily. Her pre-school have said not to go back to nappies. We’re lost with what to do!

Does she poo at somewhat regular/predictable times? Kids often do.

It may be worth sitting her on the toilet and waiting for a poo to come at set times. This way she can start to have some success.

Do you think it's true that she can't feel it/doesn't know or do you think she's scared?

She’s probably right. She’s probably constipated and can’t feel it leaking out round the old hard dry stuff that’s stuck. Have a read of the ERIC website for info. She may need movicol and may need disimpaction. There’s also a Facebook group that may help called movicol mummies.

Not particularly regular, though we do set her on the toilet and regular times with no success.
