Potty training my girl

Hi everyone. My girl will be 3 in February and I feel conscious now that she still isn't potty trained. All though I know she needs to be ready too. I think she understands the concept, a few months ago she went through a phase of going poo or wee in her nappy and then would proceed to sit on the potty. So i feel she understands to a point, but I am aware we have a fair way to go. This afternoon so far I have her bare bum, and have sat her on the potty a couple of times to get her familiar with it again, and she's had 2 wet accidents so far. Any advice or tips on how to get us started would be greatly appreciated. I should also add she is non verbal but is saying the odd word hear and there! But is unable to tell me if she needs to go!

** As I wrote the end of the post I sat her on the potty and she started peeing within about 10 seconds 🙈 🤣 🙏 I know we have far to go, but it's a start 💕♥️💕

Have her go on the potty way more often. Not a couple of times a day, but at least once per hour and read a book to her and lots of praise when she does a wee.
Also buy some disney princess underwear.

Hi! I’m in the same situation as you. Mine’s 3 in January and she’s just not into it. I always have her bare bum at home but she hates sitting on the potty or toilet and will always wee on the floor. She also tells me she wants nappies and that she won’t go on the potty.
Nursery are also trying but they tell me not to worry and she’ll do it when she’s ready. No advice for you - I just wanted you to know you’re not alone.

How have you got on @Krakinou?

Since Tuesday we've been doing no Nappies at home and trying to get her used to the potty being around!
She's even started stripping down to bare bum as soon as we get home from being out so she's getting into it, but no progress yet, just accidents so far 😂

I was just thinking of you and this thread yesterday! We’ve started trying again too but not very successful so far. I bought a bag of glow in the dark stars that I’m trying to bribe her with. One star for each attempt on the toilet. Hopefully it’s just magically going to click this week.

About an hour after I wrote to you, I was sat with DD in our living room, and every now and again i would say if you want a wee come to the potty. So time went on and I went to the kitchen to sort her lunch. When I came back to the living room to grab her for lunch, there was wee in the potty. I cried 😂 I know it's very early days but good start! Maybe she prefers me not to be watching her like a hawk, who knows. But it's a learning curve for us as well as them. Doesn't help that DD is slow with speech, so she can't tell me she needs a wee. Just need to learn her cues I guess! 🩷 Let's keep each other updated 😃🩷

Hey! We’re making very very slow progress, but it’s progress! She wasn’t that fussed about the stars at first, but I kept giving one every time and she’s a bit less nervous of the loo now. She’s started telling us when she needs to go, and she’s tried a poo a few times.

I’ve told nursery I’m bringing her in nappy-free from Monday. They were a bit off about it because they think I should wait till she initiates it, but they’ve agreed.

I think you might have a point about communication because DD was slower to speak. But mainly I think my DD just really hates the idea of growing up. All the milestones have been a battle - weaning and sleeping too. She’s starting insisting on a bottle of milk before bed even though we almost never gave her a bottle as a baby. I think it’s her way of holding on to being a baby while she dips her toe in the big girl pool.

Anyway, we had a fraught couple of days and it still hasn’t “clicked” yet, but she’s happy trying so at least I feel confident we’re doing the right thing for her now.

How are you doing @chocolatelover91 ?

Lovely to hear back from you! Progress is progress. No matter how slow 🥰

DD has nailed it here. Not in nappies here now apart from in nursery or in the car( cos she's non verbal so can't tell us when she needs to go) or when she's obviously in bed. Nursery are happy to have her going in in knickers tomorrow cos she's showing an interest in the potty there! So should be interesting to see how that goes! She can't tell me at home when she needs to go. Just pulls her pants down and goes 🤣🩷
