Oh crap potty training struggle

Started Monday with my child (2yr 4m). Day 2 he did great and very few accidents in the afternoon onwards and was taking himself every time with no prompting. Today was day 3 and he had no accidents this morning (always made the potty) so I put some shorts on him. Since then he’s had 4 accidents. I started taking him every hour which was better (he shows no cues of needing to go at all), but then he had one after half hour and didn’t even seem to notice that the shorts were wet? No recognition of having had an accident or anything.

Any tips? Do I just keep putting shorts/joggers on him and hope he notices the wet feeling when he has an accident? As although I can take him every 30 mins whilst at home, it’s harder when out and about and in a couple of weeks he starts nursery and my other is back to school.

I really don’t want to go back to nappies in the day as when he’s bare he has no accidents at all and makes the potty every time, so I really think he can do it.

Take the shorts off and start again, read the troubleshooting part of the book properly

He won't learn if you take him every hour. Go back to no bottoms and watching like a hawk.

Either re read the book (or the bit for dads at the back)

Or

Sack off oh crap and take him every 45 mins. Reward each success. If no wee, try again 10 mins later. If a wee, extend the time by 5 mins each time. Talk about 'staying dry and clean' and 'wees and poos go in the potty' and encourage him to check his shorts are still dry and clean. Celebrate this as much as a wee in the potty.
