Day 3 accidents in shorts

My son is 2 years 4 months. I started potty training on Monday (bare from waist down) and yesterday afternoon and this morning (day 3) he was doing great getting to the potty and very few accidents.

Put loose shorts on him a couple of hours ago (no pants) but now he’s just wetting his shorts and not even trying to make the potty. Do I need to go back to bare bottom again? If so how long for? We’ve stayed at home since Monday but have plans at the weekend so could really do with him getting used to shorts before then!

Can he manage the shorts himself? Pulling them down / up? If so, just stick with it. He will soon get used to the wet feeling and learn that it’s too late.

@scaredfriendthe ones I put on have been bigger than his usual size so half falling down all the time! He can tug at them himself but I was helping him as well. I took them back off after his last accident and he’s gone to the potty fine again since so think I need to keep trying so he’ll get it!

I wonder if I need to be making him sit every 30 mins or so and gradually work to longer rather than waiting for him to decide he needs to go when in shorts?

When bare he takes himself (little and often), but perhaps I shouldn’t be expecting that when he’s wearing shorts as he’s still young?

I’d try asking him to ‘try for a wee’ every 30 mins or so. Reward him for a success but if nothing has happened after a few minutes then don’t make a big deal of it just try again 15 mins later. Make sure he’s having lots of drinks so the output is high initially. He’ll soon get the hang of it.

@scaredfriendthank you yes this is what I’m going to try I think. He doesn’t wet them straight away, it’s usually after a while so I need to be taking him a bit more for now
