I’ve been training my 2.5 year old since Easter and seemed to go well initially, but over the last few weeks we’ve had an accident every couple of days at nursery, then increased to an accident or two most days, and now accidents on days he’s at home with us. Has led to a cycle of us prompting and him refusing - I feel like giving up, but we’ve gone too far? Did we start too young? Or is it just because we are on holiday and away from home atm and this is normal/expected?

Normal and expected with routine changes. Definitely not too young, mine potty trained at 16 months and 20 months - if he understands and is physically capable, which he has shown previously he does and is, he's ready. But he will need support in different environments and sounds like he's got a bit bored of it all. I'd not prompt, it leads to them pushing back. Instead I'd say things like "we're going to soft play today (or wherever). Once you've had a wee on the potty we can go. Let me know when you feel like a wee so we can go". Or similar. Ball's in his court, but the next fun thing doesn't happen until he's been.
