Hard to “crack it” in a few days

My difficulty with potty training is that my son (3) is at nursery full time and we only have the weekend to potty train him. We have tried whenever we have long weekends and it hasn’t been successful, we also don’t have many “stay at home” weekends as we travel a lot to see family.

people keep saying “just crack it in a few days”, even suggesting taking him out of nursery but it would be a massive waste of money if it wasn’t to work? We are getting there, he never wears a nappy at home apart from bedtime and he’s starting to use the potty outside of the house. But at nursery he still won’t go and he’s been in the training nappies.

can a gradual approach work? Or do I have to keep doing the whole “stay at home, crack it” approach? (Which I’ve tried twice now!)

You have cracked it and nursery haven’t- so let it be a them problem! Tell them he is in pants and they’ll need to ask him if he needs the toilet regularly. Send plenty changes of clothing and ditch the “training pants”!

Thank you I hadn’t actually thought of that..we haven’t braved wearing pants outside of the house yet either as he’s only just started using the potty. They said they ask him regularly but he resists.

This weekend do you have any of the bank holidays ? I'd do trips out without nappies this weekend.

Why aren’t your nursery helping you? I have 2 DC who went to two different nurseries and I agreed with both of them that on Monday DC would arrive wearing pants, I handed over a bin bag of clean pants and trousers and they were both toilet trained at nursery by the end of the week (toilet training at home took a bit longer). My DC nursery had little toilets for little people and didn’t use potties so we went straight to toilet training.

It’s strange your nursery won’t help as toilet training is part of their training/qualification.

They have done what we’ve asked but he doesn’t want to go at nursery. I don’t want to force him he seems frightened/overwhelmed

I think we’ll have to bite the bullet and do that.
