Ds won't contemplate not wearing nappies or use the loo. Occasionally we have had success with him using the loo for a wee. We have one of those seats that looks like a step ladder and I'm sure that's putting him off as it's a bit wobbly. If it were my choice I'd out him in pants so that if he does go he's uncomfortable. My dw is worried about the carpets and soft furnishings... our older ds was a breeze and we are looking for help to overcome this stressful period..

You don’t say how old he is but his toilet training needs to be a priority over carpets if he is older than 2 imo! I don’t think just putting pants on as the first step is the answer but leaving him bare bum with potty easily accessible and giving a smartie for example for every success. Then once he’s sort of got that, you can add in the toilet. I found making DS use the toilet or potty every day at the same time eg before bath, was v helpful in making it ‘normal’. Work out why he doesn’t like the toilet and adjust it to suit him a bit more?
