DS is just 3 and not really showing signs of being ready. I should have bit the bullet sooner and gone with it but illnesses got in the way. He still doesn’t tell us when he’s done a poo in his nappy, or if his nappy is full of wee. He’s just mastered pulling his trousers down but not well…
Should I just get on with it? Just fills me with dread.

Just get on with it. Pick a method and stick to it. When you're going through hell, probably day 3/4 DONT GIVE UP!
I used the Oh Crap book which was easy to follow.

I don't think they can tell you until after they've been potty trained, usually.

Hi! My little girl was the same. She never told me she had done anything in her nappy and didn’t really care about sitting in it! I gave her plenty of warning that her nappies were going and then I just went cold turkey with the nappies. She is 3 years 4 months and she surprised me how well she did. As above poster says, some days are hell.. but you have to power through and be consistent. I found my little girl was more willing if she thought it was her choice, for example “bare bum or knickers? Pink knickers or green ones? Potty or big toilet? She’s in her “I’m in charge” era. Good luck. Xx
