Toddler getting upset about potty - do we stop?

Only day 1 of potty training so I know may be too early to tell but I don’t know whether I should stop?

DS is 2 years 9 months. Has fully understood concept. Only dribble accidents, 5 big successful wees on potty and one successful poo today. Everytime he’s noticed that he’s weeing, he’s gone straight to potty and finished his wee. But he gets very upset about it. It took about an hour for him to have a poo. Kept having the urge to poo, panicking, running to potty and then nothing happening. Tried a couple of times. Eventually he didn’t want to get off the potty so we just sat there and read books etc. When he did his poo, he was very panicked and cried. Just after he had a little wee accident (finished it on the potty after he ran to it himself) and cried a lot.

I’m really conflicted about what to do as he’s doing sooo well and totally gets it. Obviously not getting to the potty before starting the wee yet but it’s only day 1. But I’m so proud of him. But it’s awful seeing how upset he’s getting. Is this normal? Does he just need time to build his confidence or do I stop/is he not ready?

I'd just focus on pee for now if he finds poo depressing.
