Hello
My little boy is 3years 3months and at nursery 3 days a week. I’ve been potty training him for 3 weeks and every day we end up with him wetting himself at least twice a day at home or at nursery.
He can use the potty fine but refuses if asked. I’ve tried chocolate and toys as bribery. I’ve tried a normal potty, a mini toilet potty, a seat with steps and a ping pong ball in the big toilet.
Im thinking maybe I’ve started this too soon. Everyone seems to get this done in a week. Not sure what exactly I’m getting wrong so thinking maybe he needs a bit longer to get the concept? But then to go back to nappies am I just going to make it harder for myself later?

Hello 👋🏼

we started potty training on the 27th December our 2.5year old (for medical reasons he needs to be out nappies) we had a week of wee accidents constantly and he would only poo in nappies. He grasped the wees after that week but still has bad days we had no accidents for nearly two weeks then on Tuesday at nursery he went through 5 changes of clothes! he still poos in his pants. Everyone keeps telling me he will get it fully soon. So like everyone else I’m here to tell you he will get the hang of it soon! My HV told me that it takes boys longer to potty train and on average can take up to 6 months start to finish 🙃 but I also know people and have seen people on threads where it’s taken 7+months! Hang in there x

Oh my! 7 months! I’ll keep going.
My LO took a long time to talk so I left it until I felt he could tell me.

Don't sit him on the potty to try to go. Take a few days watching him like a hawk. Make sure whatever room he's in there is a potty there.

When he makes needing to go actions, squirms or looks shifty, sit him on the potty immediately.

never known it to not work, however never needed to try on an over 2.

I naively thought it would be a quick journey haha although I suppose we haven’t actually been doing it that long and it’s a new skill keep reminding myself of course it’s going to take time but like my user name suggests I am losing the will to live with the 💩 situation haha! Hope your little one gets it’s soon! My friend said to me once they’ve got it the stress of it all will be forgotten straight away so I’m trying my best for positive thoughts 😅 x

How’s it going now OP? I’m on day 4 and he doesn’t tell me he needs a wee often (maybe once or twice a day), a bunch of wees go on the floor/in pants (depending on if he is bare bum or no) and all poos in pants. This time a month ago I gave up at this point but he told me he was wearing pants now on Tuesday and I don’t want to discourage him. I feel a bit lost!

He will be two and a half on Sunday.

I haven’t given up! I’ve lost track of the weeks 😂
Yesterday I think we had a little break through. He went to the potty, pulled his trousers down and said toilet 3 times and went without me asking at all! He is also telling me when his overnight nappy is wet and he did get us up at 3am the other night to use the potty but only after weeing in his room 🤦‍♀️
I’m quietly confident it won’t be too much longer. But I’ve not tried taking him out and about yet. My LO is 3 years 4 months but he took ages to talk and I had a baby 7 months ago so decided to wait.
Your little one sounds like he is doing really well! Id keep going for a bit. Especially if he knows what pants are now. Xx

Mine was an early talker (full sentences at 18 months) so basically everyone has been saying since then he should train as he shows all the signs. But he just seems so unbothered! He’s running around with no undies on and he’ll just stop, widen his legs so the pee doesn’t hit them and wee on the floor. He will wee every ten to twenty minutes after a drink as well. Goes right through him!

I feel I can’t quit because he asked for pants so I feel so stuck. Agh!
