Help. LO is 3 next month. We’re on day 2 and haven’t had a single wee in the potty yet. I don’t think I’m really seeing any clear cues that he needs a wee, just suddenly stops what he’s doing and wees on the floor.

Do we keep going? Do we stop and try again in a month? Spending all day in the house is pretty soul destroying when there’s been absolutely no progress…

I think having the potty out for weeks/months before actually starting and talking about where you and other family members pee is important. Also books about peeing, Pirate Pete is good. Then start without nappies when child shows interest. Or if poos are more obvious sit them on potty for that. My first two pooed on potty for months before potty training for pees began. I’d stop and start again when they show more signs of being ready.

Thanks. We’ve had a potties in the house for several months and he likes to sit on it but has never shows any interest in peeing or pooing on it. Will get the Pirate Pete book and see if that helps.

I don't think he's ready. Just wait and the right time will come.

just suddenly stops what he’s doing
That’s your cue. If you’re doing a method that relies on cues and not taking him on a schedule (there’s pros and cons of both and since you’ve started this way I would stick with it) then you need him naked from the waist down and to have the potty within arms reach of both of you and when he does the sudden stop you fling it under him, or him on top of it,
depending on positions. Lots of praise for any drops you get in there even if most of the wee is on the floor and hopefully it’ll start to click. I’d at least give it tomorrow to see if it’s starting to work before giving up, 2 days is nothing really.
