DD will be 3 in a month. Today we had our first proper go at potty training. She sat on the potty happily for long stretches but didn't pee in it. She had three accidents in four hours (two wees and a poo). After the third one we put a nappy on her and said we'll try again in a few weeks.

Have we done the right thing or should we persevere? I'm conscious we gave up very quickly but she just didn't seem to be getting it at all.

What made you think she was ready? If the signs are present, carry on, but don’t if they aren’t.

Good question... we weren't sure tbh. She seemed very keen (e.g. taking an interest in everyone's toilet habits and very excited to put knickers on this morning) but physically there weren't really any signs.

First couple of days are very hard. Keep going.

If still the same situation in a week it's time to stop and wait.

Does she go to nursery? It's hard work on the parent so it helps to have a break where someone else is overseeing it

She's been used to weeing and pooing whenever/wherever she wants. So learning to use a potty is a skill that she needs to practice. She probably needs to try for a bit longer before it clicks?
