Toddler trained but now having accidents?

Started potty training my nearly 3yo about 6 weeks ago, after 4 days he cracked it (very lucky I know) and didn't have a single accident for about a month, but these last few days he has been having "accidents" in quotes as he tells me he needs to go, sits on potty and says hes finished when theres nothing there, then 5 mins later he goes in his pants, usually poos... it's not every time he needs to go and only seems to be when hes at home but not all the time or out and about/nursery etc..?

He's not poorly and I don't ever tell him off for it. It's baffling as he did so well to crack it so quickly but for some reason now we are going backwards... as far as I'm aware he hasn't had any daunting experiences with the potty or toilet, he's just randomly decided to do it in his pants every now and then.

Any help appreciated as I don't want him to start getting into the habit of going in his pants.

Is he getting bored? Is his poo a little hard and he's struggling to get it out and loses confidence/concentration? You could try reading a book on the potty when he says he needs to go to get him to stay put long enough. Also consider if his potty is big enough - if he's uncomfortable he might not want to stay on it long enough to poo. Toddlers grow so fast!

Thank you, his poos are usually quite soft so don't think hes constipated, I would say the potty is the right size, he hasn't complained about it being uncomfortable 🤷‍♀️ I tried reading him a book, playing superheroes and all sorts but sadly he wasn't interested 🤦‍♀️ just hoping it's a little blip 🤞 wasn't sure if it was normal to regress for no reason 🤷‍♀️

It definitely can be, especially if anything else has changed e.g. different nursery or key worker or a new pet etc.. Or sometimes it seems to happen when the initial novelty of potty training wears off! If it keeps happening I'd go back to a day at home bare bummed to iron out any issues before it becomes too much of a habit.

Regressions are so normal
Think my daughter had 2 before being completely reliable..she's 4.5 now. We started when she was 2.7m

Thank you, the accidents seemed to only last a few days and now he is back to normal and making it to the potty/toilet every time! Woo!
