Potty training pop refusal and in pants

We potty trained our 3 year old about 3 months ago.

he took to wees quickly and is amazing!

but poops they have been a battle 😭😭 He screams every time he has to sit on the toilet. He knocks the seat of the toilet, punches us. But also doesn’t want his nappy anymore, he wants to poo in his pants.

its like he comes up to us and moans and goes poo! Then we try to take him to toilet and he has a complete meltdown.

Can’t afford to keep buying pants! But also he won’t do it in nappy’s either.

It’s hard work and results in a full blown tantrum everytime

I unfortunately don’t have any answers, but i can offer sympathy as another mummy going through the same!

my daughter is coming up 3 so a little younger, but she’s taken to potty training exceptionally well…except for pooping!

She seems to really struggle with pooping in general but absolutely point blank refuses (to the point of tantrums) to sit on the potty to poop! She takes herself off to stand in a corner or hides, gets angry if you even look at her let alone suggest she tries sitting on the potty!

Im at an absolute loss about how to progress! Reached out to my health visiting team but no response yet, if they suggest anything i can pass it on 🙂

i have two older children (14 and 16) so i have every faith this will one day be a distant memory but feeling like a huge deal whilst im living it!

We were much earlier in the potty training journey but what worked was that I sat him on the toilet and read him a story and eventually he pooped whilst listening which seemed to break the issue. Though then for a few weeks I had to read book after book whilst he poos which meant stopping what I am doing but hey go

@TheThinkingParent I am at a loss too! He is completely fine weeing on the toilet. But pooing he’s hysterical and upset.

@MarvellousDay I’ve tried reading, singing, bubbles, games the lot! He just cries and screams on the loo.

its a tough one to crack 😅

Yeah we’re still in the same boat, possibly a little less hysterical about pooping but still not ready/willing to poop on the potty!

I spoke to my health visiting team who offered minimal advice other than persevere! My next plan was actually to try putting her poop into the potty from her pants and try letting her know it’s ok for poop to go in there…but that’s just my thoughts on what u can try!

DD would grab a nappy out of the cupboard and bring it to me when she needed a poo. Wouldn’t go on the potty; wouldn’t go on the toilet (with a cushy toddler topper to make the hole smaller). I tried opening the nappy and putting it on the potty—no. Bribery—no. We would hit a standoff and she refused to poo—constipation. I tried every few days. What ended up working in the end was the toddler seat on the toilet, but rather than her legs dangling, I put an upside down laundry basket at her feet so she could brace herself. Just keep trying.

Why do you need to keep buying pants? Just wash them!

Hi.

Read this post and I'm currently going through this. Did it get better? How did it change? Etc.
My daughter is almost 3. Been potty trained with wees well for 5 months but only poos in a pull-up or knickers. Tried everything and nothing works. I never knew how common this was. My son is 9 and I never had this with him.

Thanks.
